Meet Dr. Susan Hunter
Susan D. Hunter, MD FACOG FACS is Board Certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a fellow of the American College of OB/Gyn and the American College of Surgeons as well. She is a specialist in Minimally InvasiveSurgery.
My philosophy for patient care is to treat every patient as if they were a member of my family. I listen to your concerns and address them. I will give you all your options, including ones that I may not be able to offer. I will address all of your questions and help you take the best possible care of yourself.
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. My dad was an electrician and my mom stayed at home to raise me and my two sisters. We are one-quarter Hispanic on my mom's side, with lots of Padillas and Reynosos in the family, mostly now in California, but previously from Aguas Calientes and Tijuana, Mexico. I do speak medical Spanish.
I graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Arizona State University and attended Northwestern University Medical School, followed by OB/Gyn residency at UTMB-Galveston. Upon graduation in 1997, I moved to Harlingen to practice with one of my surgical instructors in residency. I am fully board certified in OB/Gyn, am currently an assistant clinical professor for ob/gyn at UT-Rio Grande Valley and UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, and previously at UT-Galveston Medical Branch. .
As a physician, I enjoy helping women throughout their lives, participating in the incredible miracle of conception, and doing cutting edge surgery to help women recover as rapidly and painlessly as possible. The daVinci surgical system offers another choice to avoid a large incision on the abdomen for many women who otherwise would have no other alternative.
I feel it is important to give back to the profession and community and have helped care for lower income women through South Texas Hospital. I train or have trained all levels of medical personnel from medical aides to physician residents.
Outside of work, I enjoy relaxing at home with my cats, reading, cooking (especially when someone else cleans up the mess!) and traveling when work allows.
